Welcome to the Blog of the order of Imperium Viribus Satiatas. This is a project that has been under way for the last year or so. The purpose of which is to bring those interested or already practicing Chaos Magick Theory (CMT) in New Zealand together. While CMT isn’t really a new thing when measured in human years. In the relative chronology of Occult culture, it is still very young. It has not really had an official home in New Zealand before, so the I.V.S has been a long time coming. A search through the website will reveal we are taking this quite seriously and have spared nothing to set up a fraternal order and community for this very neglected of sub cultures and occult practices. In June of 2019 after meeting at a local Gnostic mass Frater MAGIC & Frater V.A.L.I.S got together to discuss ideas of putting together a group of people to practice CMT. After word was put out about this project Frater W.’.M.’. Quickly expressed his interest and what followed was a year of assimilating the ideas and blueprints for the group.
Chaos Magic was started in the 70’s out of the British Isles. It is distinct from other forms of occultism because it avoids the theological dogmas which are usually inherent in most other occult systems. CMT Embraces postmodernism very heavily and takes a syncretic approach to belief systems as a whole. The founding occult order to bring the Chaos magick system to the world was the Illuminates of Thanteros (IOT) Also known as ‘The Pact’. The Pact was founded by Peter Carroll and Ray Sherwin, but many other adepts also had a hand at formulating what would go on to be this seminal CMT group. The birth of the IOT was heralded by the release of ‘Liber Null’ a grimoire by Peter Carroll on the basic framework of CMT practice. Liber null took the world by storm and is still recognized as the essential book on the practice and study of chaos magick.
While lots of the ideas of Carroll’s book have history in the works of English occultist and artist Austin Osman Spare it was a document unparrelled in its practical comprehensible approach to getting results in practice of occult sciences. As the Pandemonaeon continued to unfold the meme of CMT spread it grips around the globe and the practice started springing up everywhere. Other currents of CMT emerged also with the likes of Dominus Khaotica Marauder Underground (DKMU) also gaining strong followings around the world. The most recent of occult renaissances has seen a boom in interest in the likes of CMT, Thelema, Wicca, and all other manner of magicks, thus it was only a matter of time till a representative of the CMT system found its footing in aotearoa also!
While Chaos magic was born in the 1970s it was only just predated by a very close relative known as ‘Discordianism’ Often referred to as the ‘Anti Religion’ One of Discordianisms main beliefs is that chaos is just as if not more important than order. Discordianism declares that chaos and disharmony are essential parts of reality like other religions declare harmony and order to be. Its main deity is ‘Eris’ or ‘Discordia’ the Greek / roman goddess of chaos. Most Chaos Magicians identify with discordianism in some way, so the two cultures are very closely interwoven. The I.V.S does not identify as being discordian in its essence, but it also encourages its members to study the cultures behind it. The brilliant minds like Robert Anton Wilson and Greg hill are considered essential curriculum for all IVS aspirants and Chaosism in all its forms is considered the perfect Meta paradigm to operate from.
What is to come on our blog are articles from our group and occasionally our friends from around the world who practice a plethora of occult systems.
